South24 Center for News and Studies is an independent, non-profit media and research institution established in Switzerland in September 2019. It aims to provide professional journalism and in-depth research on South Yemen and Yemen more broadly, while examining how developments there intersect with wider regional and international dynamics.

Over the past seven years, South24 Center has evolved from a platform specializing in monitoring events and developments in South Yemen into an institution that combines field journalism, political and strategic analysis, research, monitoring, and the production of knowledge, data, and visual content. The Center seeks to serve as a reliable source and specialized reference for journalists, researchers, policymakers, institutions, and those interested in Yemeni affairs and regional issues.

The Center pays particular attention to political, security, economic, social, and humanitarian developments in South Yemen and Yemen, as well as issues related to the security of the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Bab Al-Mandab, and regional conflicts and rivalries across the Arabian Peninsula, the Middle East, and the Horn of Africa. Its areas of focus have also expanded to include climate and environmental issues, natural resources, migration, human rights, women's rights, marginalized and vulnerable groups, and other issues affecting the future of local communities and regional stability.

South24's work draws on a network of local and international journalists, researchers, and experts, combining field sources, open sources, documents, data, and expert testimony. Information and competing narratives are subject to verification as well as editorial and research review. The Center is committed to providing balanced coverage that reflects the complexity of the Yemeni landscape and the diversity of its actors, while maintaining, as far as possible, a clear distinction between news, opinion, and analysis.

The opening of the Center's Regional Office in Aden in February 2022 marked an important milestone in strengthening its field and institutional presence. It enabled South24 to expand its reporting network, enhance direct engagement with local communities, political and civil actors, and researchers, and develop journalistic and research output more closely connected to realities on the ground.

The Center produces a wide range of content, including news and breaking coverage, field and in-depth reports, investigations, analyses, research papers and studies, monitoring projects, interactive maps and data, opinion polls, infographics, videographics, interviews, and documentary films. South24 publishes in both Arabic and English, bringing local developments to international audiences while making international debates and analyses related to Yemen and the region accessible to local readers.

South24's role extends beyond media and research publishing. The Center works to create spaces for dialogue and knowledge exchange through seminars, conferences, panel discussions, and specialized events. It also participates in programs and projects aimed at strengthening the capacities of journalists and researchers, enhancing professional safety, and supporting more specialized journalism capable of addressing complex issues.

Throughout its work, the Center has implemented projects and programs in cooperation with local and international institutions and organizations in areas including advocacy, women's rights, climate and the environment, migration, development, journalist safety, capacity building, and knowledge production. It has also developed a network of partnerships and collaborations with media and research institutions and international organizations, helping broaden the scope of its work and strengthen the presence of issues related to South Yemen and Yemen in regional and international discussions.

The Center continuously develops its research and digital tools, as well as its methods for presenting data and information, while making use of modern technologies in journalism. At the same time, it remains committed to the profession's core principles of accuracy, independence, balance, verification, transparency, and accountability to the public.

South24 Center is officially registered in Switzerland under the laws governing non-profit organizations, under registration number CHE-466.313.874. It is also licensed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in Aden, Yemen, under license number 560.
