International Quartet informs Yemen’s PLC of planned sanctions over stalled economic reforms

Aden (South24 Center)The International Quartet on Yemen — the United States, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — has informed the Presidency of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) that it is preparing to impose international sanctions on any officials obstructing the government’s economic and financial reform programme, according to officials briefed on the discussions.Reuters reported that the measures being prepared would specifically target governors “considered to be shirking their duty to remit revenues to the government and the central bank after the deadline for doing so has expired or is about to expire.” The Quartet’s message com ...
