Southern forces and allied tribal fighters repelled a Houthi infiltration attempt in Lahj Governorate on Monday (September 28), a military source told South24 Center, as fighting continued near the Bab al-Mandab Strait and airstrikes hit Houthi positions in Lahj and Taiz.

The source said the 23rd Southern Giants Brigade, backed by fighters from the Subaiha tribes, repelled the attempt on the Al-Mohawilah front in Al-Modaribah and Ras Al-Arah District. Other military and local sources said the Houthis fired Katyusha rockets toward populated areas of the district. No casualties were immediately reported.

At dawn on Monday, Southern forces and the Houthis exchanged fire with medium weapons and artillery on the Qarin Al-Musaymir front in northern Lahj, according to South24 sources. Later, a military source said four airstrikes hit Houthi positions on the Al-Aghabarah front, where clashes were continuing.

The Southern Giants Brigades released a video that they said showed the destruction of three Houthi vehicles on the Kahboub front. The brigades said those aboard were killed and that one of the vehicles had been carrying a Houthi commander and his escorts.

In Taiz, the media centre of the pro-government Taiz Military Axis said warplanes struck Houthi reinforcements in the Al-Rubaie area west of Taiz city, setting a tank on fire.

Separately, a military source told South24 that explosions were heard in Houthi-controlled areas of the governorate as warplanes flew over the Kirsh front toward Taiz.

The developments followed airstrikes on Sunday in Al-Hawban and near the Mawiyah intersection in eastern Taiz. Local sources said the strikes hit a missile-launch site, the Radio Camp and locations near Al-Saleh City.

Pro-government forces said the aircraft targeted a camp and Houthi vehicles near the Mawiyah intersection. The Houthi-run Health Ministry, however, said strikes near the intersection hit shops and caused civilian casualties.

In Lahj, a local source said the Houthis fired three rockets on Sunday that landed near Al-Haima market in the Al-Modaribah area, with no casualties reported.

The renewed clashes came two days after the Southern Giants Brigades said they had halted Houthi attempts to advance toward Kahboub and Al-Modaribah. Fighting in recent weeks has extended from Al-Wazi’iyah in western Taiz to fronts in Lahj near Bab al-Mandab.

In Saudi Arabia, Civil Defense issued a warning on Monday over a potential threat in Jazan and Najran, without immediately specifying its nature. It later announced that the danger had passed in both areas.
