An informed source told the 'South24 Center' today that "the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) has failed to reach a consensus on steps to ’reform‘ the path of the legitimate government”, after a series of meetings held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The source who was privy to the Riyadh meetings said that PLC Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi and other members continue to oppose putting in place practical solutions that will contribute to the development of the regions of the South, and help it exit the state of stagnation.
The source also mentioned that President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and PLC member, Major General Aidrous Al-Zubaidi, withdrew from the PLC meeting on Wednesday, which discussed the formation of a new government.
The source said that Al-Zubaidi did not see any seriousness towards improving the situation.
According to the source, the points of disagreement between the PLC members relate to several economic and political issues, in addition to the future nature of the partnership between the South and the North in managing state institutions and decision-making.
The source said that the STC demanded clear economic and political solutions to ensure that the PLC is able to implement its obligations towards the people.
The PLC meetings in Riyadh also discussed developing an executive mechanism for a set of points presented by the ambassadors of the P3+2 countries [US, UK, France, UAE, Saudi Arabia], which included "holding the Yemeni parliament's sessions in Aden."
The PLC members continue to focus on their own goals, with some of them still seeking to put a quota on the South instead of focusing on "liberating the North" from the control of the Houthi militia, according to the source.
