On Tuesday (March 18), the Houthi group announced the funeral of 10 of its military officers in the capital, Sanaa. This marks the highest death toll declared since the beginning of March, amid the escalating US airstrikes targeting Houthi-linked sites in Yemen.
The Houthi-controlled Saba News Agency reported that the fighters who were killed had fallen during recent military operations. However, the agency did not specify the timing or location of their deaths, only stating that they had died in what it described as the “Battle of the Clear Conquest and Holy Jihad,” a term the group uses for its maritime military operations and the subsequent US airstrikes in response to those attacks.
The announcement of the officers’ deaths comes as the United States intensified its airstrikes on Houthi-controlled sites in retaliation for the group’s attacks targeting maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Since March 15, the US has conducted air and naval strikes on Houthi military sites in Sanaa, Saada, Hodeidah, and Al-Bayda, resulting in human and material losses for the Houthis.
Names and Ranks of the Dead
According to the agency, the list of the deaths included three officers with the rank of major:
• Ali Mohammed Miad
• Saif Mohammed Majli
• Younis Zaid Al-Shami
The list also included five officers with the rank of second lieutenant and one of first lieutenant:
• Mohammed Khaled Al-Hamdani
• Yahya Ahmed Naim
• Hamza Mohammed Al-Mutawakel
• Yusuf Abdulwahab Mutahar
• Zakaria Yahya Al-Sabri
• Ali Muqbil Jaradah – First Lieutenant
The tenth officer held the rank of assistant, identified as Suhail Sinan Saadan.
Funeral Ceremony Attended by Senior Leaders and Military Officials
The funeral of the Houthi officers witnessed official ceremonies attended by prominent figures from the group, including Brigadier General Ali Al-Aqil, head of operations for the Sixth Military Zone.
According to Houthi sources, those killed were buried in their hometowns after funeral prayers were held at the People’s Mosque in the Capital Secretariat.
