Two soldiers were killed and 15 others wounded on Thursday (August 13) in a drone attack targeting a camp belonging to the 3rd Division of the Saudi-backed Nation Shield Forces in Al-Abr, Hadramout Governorate, South Yemen, according to sources who spoke to South24 Center.

A local source said drones targeted the military site in the Al-Abr desert, while another source put the preliminary toll at two soldiers killed and 15 wounded. Local reports said the wounded were transferred to hospitals in Seiyun for treatment.

Initial images reviewed by South24 Center showed columns of smoke rising from military sites in the area following the strikes. As of Thursday evening, the Houthi group had not claimed responsibility for the attack, while neither the Nation Shield Forces nor the local authorities in Hadramout had issued a detailed statement on the incident or the final casualty toll.

The attack comes exactly one week after a major wave of Houthi ballistic missile and drone strikes targeted Saudi-backed Yemeni Emergency Forces in Hadramout and Marib on August 6. The attacks hit military positions in Al-Abr, as well as Al-Ruwaik and Al-Thaniyah.

At least 60 people were killed in those attacks.

The Houthis later claimed responsibility, saying they had targeted what they described as Saudi military deployments and concentrations in Al-Ruwaik, Al-Abr and Al-Thaniyah using ballistic missiles and drones.

The latest attack also follows a Houthi drone strike on July 29 targeting a Nation Shield Forces position near Jabal Al-Zaytouna, adjacent to Al-Anad Air Base in Lahj Governorate. Two soldiers were wounded in that attack, according to a military source who spoke to South24 Center.

In a separate field development on Thursday, a military source told South24 Center that the Houthis were carrying out tribal mobilization and establishing new positions and trenches in Mawiyah district of Taiz Governorate, near the Al-Musaymir and Al-Azariq fronts in Lahj and Al-Dhalea.

The movements come amid escalating military activity across several fronts in recent days.
