A military source has informed South24 Center that a field officer from the Southern forces was killed today due to artillery and mortar shelling carried out by the Houthi militia in Lahj Governorate (north of Aden).

Captain Sanad Hamayed was killed in the sudden Houthi attack on the ‘Habeel Hanash’ front in Lahj Governorate, the source reported. Five of the soldiers accompanying him were also injured during the attack.

In response to the attack, Southern forces launched artillery and tank shelling on Houthi positions in Mawiyah District of Taiz Governorate in North Yemen, which is adjacent to Habeel Hanash District in Lahj Governorate.

Clashes between the two sides continued for nearly two hours, according to the military source. Last Sunday, the Houthi militia launched a mortar attack against Southern forces on the Al-Fakher front, north of Al-Dhalea.

The militia organized a military parade in Al-Bayda Governorate on the border with South Yemen on Saturday.

Yesterday, the head of the Houthi Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat, announced an initiative to end all military fronts from all parties in Taiz Governorate, according to reports from the Houthi-affiliated Saba News Agency.
