One person was killed on Tuesday evening (September 22) in a drone strike on the coastal area of Burum, west of Al-Mukalla in Hadramout governorate, according to Hadramout Coast police. Police did not identify the person killed or say who carried out the strike.

A security source told South24 Center that another person was injured. In a statement issued Wednesday, police confirmed one death and said they had detained several people at the scene. The statement did not address the reported injury.

Brigadier General Abdulaziz Awadh Al-Jabri, the head of Hadramout Coast police, visited the site on Wednesday. Police said criminal investigators and forensic teams were gathering evidence to establish the circumstances of the strike.

Yemeni journalist Mohammed bin Faisal, who specializes in extremist groups, said the possible target was Sulaiman Saeed Al-Muhammadi and that the strike took place near a fish landing pier following a meeting at the site.

Citing a source he described as a “jihadist,” bin Faisal alleged that Al-Muhammadi was linked to an Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) figure known as Abu Al-Laith Al-Hadrami and to a cell that coordinated logistics between Yemen and Somalia. He also relayed claims that the cell had planned operations in Al-Mukalla, including an attack on the central prison.

These allegations could not be independently verified.
