On Monday (January 19), Aden government authorities began implementing new security arrangements in the capital, Aden, including the repositioning of military units outside the city and the announcement of a new security apparatus named the "National Security Forces," as part of steps overseen by Saudi Arabia.

The media center of the Southern Giants Brigades stated that the repositioning process commenced on Monday afternoon under the directives of Presidential Leadership Council member, Commander Abdulrahman Al-Muharrami, and Minister of State and Governor of Aden, Abdulrahman Sheikh, in coordination with the Arab Coalition, the Ministry of Defense, and the General Staff.

Under the plan, the Southern Giants Brigades handed over the Jabel Hadid camp to the Facility Security Forces in Aden, marking the start of field implementation to remove military units from the urban area and limit security presence within the city to the specialized regular apparatuses only.

The statement added that the plan stipulates keeping the Police, Road Security (Al-Najda), Emergency Forces, and Facility Security and Guarding Forces inside the city, alongside specialized security units, to ensure public security and the protection of vital facilities.

In a related context, Al-Muharrami directed changing the name of the Security Belt Forces and all its affiliated units to a new name, the "National Security Forces," and the adoption of a new official logo bearing the approved name.

The Security Belt Forces are a Southern security force formed after 2015 in Aden with Emirati support, establishing branches in neighboring governorates such as Abyan, Lahj, and Al-Dhalea, and they possess a prominent security record in combating terrorism and crime.

On Sunday (January 18), Major General Staff Falah Al-Shahrani, advisor to the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, said that the regular security apparatuses would be the authorized entity for securing the capital, Aden, while all military formations would be moved outside the city, including the Nation's Shield Forces and the Southern Giants Brigades.

Al-Shahrani added, during a meeting held at the Coalition headquarters in Madinat al-Shaab, attended by a representative from South24 Center and a group of journalists and correspondents, that there is a plan to form the "National Security Forces” by merging the Security Belt Forces with the Police forces, to consolidate the institutional security work and reduce duplication.

He pointed out that the appearance of armed forces within Aden will gradually fade away, in parallel with the local authority’s adoption of plans to convert a number of security camps, including Jabel Hadid, into civilian, recreational, service, and educational sites.

Since the beginning of this year, the security and military arena in South Yemen has witnessed unprecedented dramatic developments. Saudi Arabia has begun implementing its arrangements in Aden and neighboring governorates, while the Saudi-backed Nation's Shield forces fully control Hadramout and Al-Mahra.
