The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Tuesday (September 23) that the captain of a commercial vessel notified authorities of an impact and explosion sound approximately 120 miles east of Aden, southern Yemen.
In a statement, the authority said that "the vessel proceeded to its designated port of arrival, with no harm to its crew," emphasizing that it is following up on the incident with relevant authorities.
The nature of the incident and the party behind it were not immediately clear. However, the area east of Aden has witnessed a series of maritime attacks over recent months, which have been attributed to the Houthi group.
In a related development, a Southern military source told ‘South24’ that Southern forces successfully thwarted a Houthi infiltration attempt on the Bab Ghalaq fronts in northern Al-Dhale' Governorate on Tuesday morning.
The source added that "the clashes resulted in heavy losses among the Houthi attackers," noting that Southern forces "repelled the attack and forced the militants to retreat."
The northern fronts of Al-Dhale' continue to experience repeated tensions due to persistent Houthi attempts to breach contact lines, coinciding with ongoing maritime threats in Yemen's territorial and adjacent international waters.
