Yemeni security authorities at the Al-Wadiah border crossing with Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday the interception of a massive smuggling attempt involving more than one million narcotic pills destined for the Kingdom.

The Yemeni News Agency (Saba) quoted Yemeni Border Security as stating that the shipment, totaling precisely 1,005,300 pills, was tightly concealed on the surface of a refrigerated truck.

Preliminary investigations with the driver revealed the shipment belonged to a trafficking network based in Sanaa, which is under Houthi militia control, and was intended for delivery in Sharurah, Saudi Arabia.

Both Saudi and Yemeni authorities frequently announced the foiling of drug smuggling attempts, particularly of Captagon pills, which are widely produced and trafficked in the region.

In recent months, authorities have intercepted multiple smuggling attempts involving thousands of Captagon pills, kilograms of methamphetamine (Shabu), and large quantities of hashish.

In a separate development, the Interior Ministry of Yemen's internationally recognized government reported the arrival of 150 illegal migrants from the Horn of Africa on Wednesday at the coast of Radoum district in Shabwa governorate, southern Yemen.

Shabwa security authorities stated the migrants were disembarked by a smuggling boat at Kida coast, noting all carried Ethiopian nationality including 20 women.
