On Wednesday (March 26), the Security Belt Forces stated that they had carried out a specialized security operation in the southern Yemeni capital of Aden, that led to the dismantling of a Houthi-affiliated terrorist cell that was in advanced stages of executing sabotage operations targeting vital institutions and the city's security.
A statement issued by the Security Belt Forces Media Center said that preliminary investigations revealed direct links between the Houthi militia and the arrested cell members, who had been put through intensive training on executing explosions and sabotage before being deployed in Aden through a border governorate.
The statement added that the cell, consisting of four elements, was part of a "broader scheme" to create chaos in Aden and target southern border fronts. It noted that the Houthi militia had recently intensified recruitment and radicalization operations among southern youth with the aim of using them to carry out hostile activities.
A source in Security Belt Operations stated that the cell's discovery was based on precise intelligence information, and that security units had succeeded in executing a preemptive operation that prevented the planned attacks
.
The Security Belt Command affirmed its commitment to continuing preventive operations against sleeper cells and sabotage activities, and renewed its pledge to protect the security and stability of Aden and its surroundings.
The Iran-aligned Houthi group, which controls northern Yemen, has not responded to the allegations of this statement.
The Security Belt Forces is a paramilitary force loyal to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and carries out counter-terrorism and law enforcement activities in southern Yemen.
