The Southern Giants Brigades announced on Saturday, March 8, that they had repelled an attack by the Houthi militia on the Mal'a front, south of Marib Governorate.
The Giants Brigades Media Center said in a statement: "Our forces repelled an attack launched by the terrorist Houthi militia on mountainous sites of the Mal'a front, in Harib district, on the outskirts of Al-Jawbah district, south of Marib Governorate."
The statement said that the Giants Brigades forces successfully repelled the attack using medium and light weapons. The Houthis suffered casualties in the violent clash, the statement added.
The Southern Giants Brigades is led by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) Vice President and Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) member Abdulrahman Abu Zaraa Al-Muhrrammi.
In Taiz Governorate, the Taiz Military Axis Media Center said in a statement on Facebook that three members of the Houthi group were killed during an ambush on the western front of Taiz.
The statement noted that an attempt by the Houthis to launch an attack on the western front of Taiz was thwarted. It did not provide any additional details.
In recent days the Houthi militia has escalated its military attacks on a number of fronts in the governorates of Marib, Al Jawf, Taiz, Al-Dhalea and Lahj. These attacks threaten the state of relative calm that the country has been experiencing since 2022.
On March 6, the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, highlighted the escalation of the conflict in Yemen amidst the rise of hostile rhetoric and military movements, and noted that the country faces the risk of sliding back into large-scale confrontations.
