The Iran-backed Houthi militia announced this evening that they had targeted an area in the Israeli city of Yavneh with a drone.

This is considered the first Houthi attack on Israel hours after the fall of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, an ally of Tehran.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea stated that "the air force carried out a qualitative operation targeting a sensitive target [..] with a drone."

In contrast, Israeli army spokesman, Avichay Adraee, explained on the X platform that "a hostile drone penetrated Israeli airspace and struck a civilian area in the city."

He pointed out that no injuries were reported, and no alarms were activated, adding that "all details of the incident are under investigation."

Videos on social media showed the moment the drone hit the roof of a tall residential building, while Israeli emergency services reported hearing a loud explosion followed by fire and smoke billowing out.

In a related context, the Houthis announced yesterday (December 8) that they had carried out, in cooperation with Iraqi militants, a military operation against a target in southern Israel using a number of drones, according to their affiliated Saba news agency.

In news at the local level, local sources reported that the senior official in the 'National Resistance' office, Kamel Al-Khodani, was shot east of Marib city, which also resulted in injury to one of his companions.

So far, details of the party responsible for the attack have not been clarified, and no party has claimed responsibility. No official statement has been issued by the 'National Resistance' regarding the incident.

The National Resistance Forces (also known as the Republican Guards), is a paramilitary unit led by Brigadier General Tariq Saleh, nephew of the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Tariq Saleh is a member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council.
