Today, six civilians were killed and eight others wounded in shelling carried out by a Houthi drone in the Maqbanah district of Taiz governorate, in North Yemen, media sources said.

The ‘2 December‘ website reported that the shelling targeted a school in the middle of a local market in the village of Al-Bumiyah, which is administratively affiliated with Maqbanah district, and is adjacent to Hays district, south of Hodeidah Governorate.

Photos circulated by activists and news websites showed the bloodied bodies of the six victims. So far, the Houthis have not claimed responsibility for the drone attack or denied it.

The Maqbanah district in Taiz has witnessed many similar incidents over the past years in which dozens of civilians were killed or wounded.

In December 2021, eight civilians were killed and nine wounded as a result of Houthi shelling with a ballistic missile that targeted a school in the Damin area on the outskirts of Maqbanah district.

However, in August 2023, the Houthis announced that three civilians were killed, and 14 others injured, including eight women and four children, in a rocket and artillery attack on the Al-Akhou area in Maqbanah district. The Houthis accused pro-Yemeni government forces of carrying out the attack.
