Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak held a meeting today with the Security and Military Committee in the capital Aden to discuss efforts to restructure the military and security forces, according to the official Saba News Agency.

The meeting was chaired by Major General Haitham Qasim Taher, head of the committee, who presented a report on the progress made since the committee was formed under the Declaration of the Transfer of Power (2022).

According to Saba, the report focused on achieving security and stability, financial and administrative reforms, and reorganizing the military and security forces.

The statement said that the meeting discussed executive plans to develop the performance of the armed forces, including the implementation of the fingerprint system, to ensure financial and administrative transparency. It also approved the formation of a joint executive team between the government and the committee to implement the proposed reforms.

The Prime Minister said that the government is "committed to supporting the military institution," and stressed the importance of "unifying the operational decisions and enhancing the efficiency of the forces to confront security challenges, including fighting the Houthis and terrorist organizations."

Bin Mubarak stressed the importance of comprehensive reforms to combat corruption and enhance transparency in various government sectors. He also pledged to care for the families of soldiers killed in the line of duty, and the wounded.

On May 30, 2022, the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) formed the 59-member Security and Military Committee, headed by Major General Haitham Qasim Taher, the last Minister of Defense in the former South Yemen army.

The committee's tasks, which fall under Article (5) of the Declaration of the Transfer of Power from President Hadi to the PLC (April 2022), include restructuring and arranging the military and security forces affiliated with the parties of the PLC within the framework of the Ministries of Defense and Interior.
