Yemeni Houthi forces claim to have shot down two US-made MQ-9 Reaper drones in the skies of North Yemen over the past three days.
Military spokesman Yahya Sarea said on Tuesday that the Iran-backed group had shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone while it was flying over Saada Governorate, the Houthis’ primary stronghold.
This marks the second such incident this week after the group announced on Saturday that they had downed another drone over Marib.
According to the Houthis, they have now shot down nine American MQ-9 Reaper drones in areas under their control.
The group has yet to release any photos or videos of the last two downed drones, despite having done so after previous incidents.
In November 2023, the US Department of Defense confirmed the downing of an MQ-9 Reaper drone near Yemen’s coast.
The MQ-9 Reaper, made by General Atomics, is one of the most advanced drones in the world, costing around $30 million each.
