International ambassadors present credentials in Aden

Ambassadors from several Asian, European, and African nations presented their credentials to Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) today at Maashiq Palace in the capital, Aden, with the newly-appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shayea Al-Zindani, in attendance.

The ambassadors included Dang Sian Zheng from the Republic of Vietnam, Petra Menander from the Kingdom of Sweden, Faisal Ali Ibrahim from the Federal Republic of Ethiopia, as well as Gerard Mackway from the Republic of Ireland, Christophe Ceska from the Republic of Austria, and Suhail Ijaz Khan from the Republic of India.

The list of accredited ambassadors also included Nelson Manuel Cosme from the Republic of Angola and Qais Saad Al Amri from the Republic of Iraq.

PLC Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi welcomed the diplomats and assured them of the provision of full support and facilities for carrying out their duties and strengthening bilateral relations between Yemen and their respective countries, the official Saba Agency reported in a statement.

"Al-Alimi pointed out the importance of the international community's support for the legitimate government in its efforts to rebuild the state and achieve peace in Yemen," the statement said. It added that Al-Alimi highlighted the ongoing economic and humanitarian challenges facing Yemen while expressing praise for the support provided by Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Al-Alimi attributed the stalemate in Yemen's peace process to the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, accusing them of obstructing efforts toward a political resolution.

"Despite the important national transformation with the formation of the PLC, the regional and international momentum to revive the political process, and the initiatives provided by the government in support of this path, the peace process remains stalled, due to the intransigence of the Houthis,” Al-Alimi said.

Although Aden has been secured for years, after the expulsion of the Houthis from South, most foreign embassies have yet to return, with most ambassadors working temporarily from Riyadh.

Iran remains the only country to have exchanged ambassadors with the Houthi rebels, based in Sanaa. However, since the mysterious death of Iran’s ambassador to Sanaa, Hasan Irlu, was announced in December 2021, no new ambassador has been appointed.
