On Wednesday, Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak arrived in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah on the same day that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken began a visit to the country.
The Yemeni government-run news agency Saba reported that Bin Mubarak arrived in Jeddah on an official visit, during which he will hold meetings with Saudi officials to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and issues of common interest.
Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller highlighted Blinken’s visit on X, saying that he “will meet with leaders to discuss efforts to urgently increase and sustain humanitarian aid in Gaza and build lasting peace and security in the region.”
The visit of Bin Mubarak and Blinken to Jeddah comes at a time when the Houthis are increasing the scope of their naval attacks against international shipping and US forces in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Last Thursday, Houthi leader Abdulmalik Al-Houthi announced the expansion of attacks toward the Indian Ocean to prevent the passage of ships through the Cape of Good Hope. Al-Houthi also threatened the US and UK with further escalation.
