The Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthi militia announced earlier today that it had targeted the American warship USS Gravely in the Red Sea with missiles yesterday.

In a post on the X platform, the military spokesman for the Houthis, Brigadier General Yahya Sarea, said: “[We] fired several suitable naval missiles at the American destroyer USS Gravely. [We] confirm that all US and UK warships in the Red and Arabian Seas participating in the aggression against our country are within the target bank of our forces.”

US Central Command had earlier said on X that the USS Gravely shot down an anti-ship cruise missile fired by the Houthis yesterday evening, reporting no casualties or damage.

This is the latest Houthi attack against the US Navy in the Red Sea.

Yesterday, Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, a member of the Houthi political bureau, said on X that the US threatened them by opening fronts and battles inside Yemen, a message delivered through the Sultanate of Oman.

Al-Houthi said: “Opening battles and moving fronts is one of the US threats that was delivered as an American message through Amman… [This] will not deter us from our mission to support Gaza”.

A few days ago, the Houthis began a military escalation against Southern forces in the Bayhan area of Shabwa Governorate on the border with Marib Governorate.

Today, a South24 correspondent reported that one soldier was killed and two others injured in a Houthi drone attack targeting Southern and pro-government forces in the Saba military axis in Harib District, Marib.

On Sunday, a soldier from the Southern Giants Brigades was killed and other soldiers were injured by a Houthi missile strike in Beihan, Shabwa Governorate.

The Houthis also carried out a number of attacks in Al-Dhalea Governorate. A senior official of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) warned of the repercussions of the Houthi escalation on the peace process.

“It is a militia that only knows the language of force,” Major General Faraj al-Bahsani, the STC Vice President and member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, said on X.
