Trials commence for «terrorists» in Aden

The Specialized Criminal Court in the capital, Aden, held sessions today to prosecute individuals accused of being involved in bloody terrorist operations that shook Aden and left dozens dead and wounded.

The Southern Yemeni TV channel, The Aden Independent Channel (AIC), reported that the Specialized Criminal Court held a court session today to consider the case of those accused of detonating a car bomb in front of the gate of Aden International Airport on October 30, 2021, and attempting to assassinate the Governor of Aden, Ahmed Lamlas, with a car bomb on October 10 of the same year.

The AIC noted that “the evidence was reviewed and a number of requests were submitted to the Public Prosecution, and the court decided to postpone the ruling against the defendants belonging to the Amjad Khaled network [commander of the pro-government Transport Brigade] to the next session.”

The Criminal Court in Aden also held another session for those accused of the attempted assassination of the southern military commander, Major General Saleh Al-Dharhani, using a car rigged with explosives, in Al-Mualla district in Aden on May 15, 2022.

Al-Dharhani is one of the military commanders affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council. He was appointed as head of joint operations for the Presidential Leadership Council's forces last November.

In video clips previously published by Aden security, several defendants admitted their involvement in the three cases, carrying out operations under the guidance and planning of Brigadier General Amjad Khaled - a military leader who resides in the Al-Turbah area in Taiz and is close to the Islah Party- using funding from the Houthis.

Today, the Criminal Court in Aden also issued death sentences to three people convicted of belonging to a Houthi militant unit and detonating an explosive device targeting a military vehicle from the 83rd Artillery Brigade (a government forces brigade) in the city of Qa’taba, north of Al-Dhalea Governorate.

Four other people were sentenced to death by the Criminal Court, after being convicted of detonating a bomb in front of a citizen’s house in Lahj Governorate, causing the death of a number of children.
