US Envoy Visits the Gulf to Advance Peace Efforts in Yemen

The United States (US) State Department said that the US special envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking will visit the Gulf today, to advance peace efforts in Yemen.
Reuters news agency quoted the State Department saying that Lenderking is visiting "to advance ongoing un-led efforts to expand the truce and launch a comprehensive peace process".
"Lenderking will meet with Yemeni, Saudi, Emirati, Omani and international partners to discuss the necessary steps to secure a durable ceasefire and launch an inclusive, UN-mediated political process while ensuring continued efforts to ease the economic crisis and suffering of Yemenis," the agency added.
Lenderking's visit comes in light of threats by the Houthi militia in North Yemen to return to war and end the current de-escalation status in the country.
Houthi officials, including the group's deputy foreign minister, also threatened to target US forces stationed in the Red Sea.
On Saturday, Houthi leader Abdulmalik Al-Houthi threatened to resume the war if their demands were not met. The demand include obtaining part of the oil and gas revenues that is concentrated in South Yemen.
Al-Houthi said: "We cannot remain silent about what is happening for a long time. We have given enough room for Omani mediation."
