Today, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced meetings that brought together minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian with officials from the Sultanate of Oman and the Houthi group in the capital city Muscat.

Abdollahian met his Omani counterpart Badr Albusaidi as part of a visit by the Iranian foreign minister to Oman at an official invitation. The two ministers discussed the development of bilateral relations and a number of issues.

The Iranian foreign minister said that the upcoming visit of Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to Tehran "will represent a turning point in bilateral relations in various sectors".

Abdollahian praised Muscat for hosting talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry website. He also criticized the presence of foreign forces in the Gulf region.

The Iranian minister described the recent visit by two delegations from the Sultanate of Oman and Saudi Arabia to the Houthi-controlled Sanaa as "positive." He hoped that the talks would lead to peace.

In a related context, Abdollahian met with the head of the chief Houthi negotiator Mohammed Abdul Salam in the Iranian embassy in Muscat.

The Iranian minister said: "Iran welcomes any initiative to lift the blockade on Yemen and establish a comprehensive ceasefire and understanding between Yemeni political parties".

Mohammed Abdul Salam tweeted: "We met with the Iranian foreign minister. During the meeting, we discussed the latest developments at the national and regional levels and the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman to make the peace efforts in Yemen a success".
