Nearly 5 people drowned and 26 others were rescued in separate accidents in the governorates of South Yemen in recent weeks.

In a tracking carried out by South24 team, Hadramout governorate, the country's largest governorate, has the largest proportion of these accidents, most of which are linked to an annual local entertainment season in which people go to swim at the governorate coasts at this time of year.

The coastal city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout, recorded two drowning deaths during the "town season" on the coast of the city on July 17 and 22. On Wednesday, Sah district witnessed the drowning of a child under the age of 15 in the Ghail River.

The number of people who were rescued in the governorate, according to the official data of the Coast Guard tracked by South24, reached about 23 person.

In the Shabwa governorate, a woman and her child in Habban district were swept away by torrential waters, on Wednesday, the Coast Guard rescued three people from drowning accidents in separate locations on the beaches of the capital, Aden.

Earlier, the Coast Guard in Aden issued a warning to citizens, calling on them to be careful and not to swim in dangerous places.

As for the reasons for the large number of such incidents, a source in Hadramout Coast Guard told "South24": "Many people try to impress others by swimming or diving in places where there are signs warning against these practices."

The source attributed the frequent drowning incidents in Mukalla to "lack of experience, natural lack of fear from water, and violation of safety rules by adults."
