Today, a senior delegation of the World Bank visited the capital, Aden, in South Yemen.

The delegation, which included the Dean of the Board of Executive Directors at the World Bank Group, Dr. Merza Hasan, and other officials, met with the Presidential Council member Aidrous Al-Zubaidi.

Al-Zubaidi discussed with the delegation at Maashiq Palace the Bank's efforts to enhance food security, sustainable development projects and infrastructure.

Al-Zubaidi described their second visit to Aden since the outbreak of the war in Yemen in 2015 with "appreciated." "I stressed the importance of having a representative of the bank in the capital, Aden," he added.

The Yemeni government, headed by Maeen Abdulmalik, also discussed cooperation and supporting the government's ability to face global challenges.

Among the discussed topics were ways to support the Central Bank in Aden and the economic reform policies that the government and the new Presidential Council are working on in the country.

The World Food Programme said in a previous statement that it has further reduced rations in Yemen, where millions face hunger, due to critical funding gaps, global inflation and knock-on effects of the Ukraine conflict.

"We are now being driven to scale back that support for 5 million of those people to less than 50% of the daily requirement, and for the other 8 million to around 25% of the daily requirement," WFP said in a Twitter post on Sunday.
