The STC President and Presidential Council member Aidrous Al-Zubaidi and other Yemeni officials arrived today in the capital, Aden, South Yemen.

A source at Aden Airport told "South24" that Al-Zubaidi arrived on a private plane from Abu Dhabi.

Al-Zubaidi, a popular Southern leader, is leading the demands of people of South Yemen for independence from North.

On April 7, he was named in Riyadh as a member of an eight member presidential council to manage the transitional phase in Yemen, succeeding Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

Al-Zubaidi and the other members have the powers of the former president and his deputy, but Rashad Al-Alimi is currently the Chairman of the Presidential Council.

The Yemeni Prime Minister, members of the government, and the Shura and Representatives Councils arrived in Aden. Furthermore, the Presidency Council member Faraj Al-Bahsani has also arrived from Hadramout.

Tariq Saleh and Sultan Al-Arada, two other members of the Presidential Council have also arrived to Aden.

The newly-formed Council will administer Yemen from Aden for the first time since Hadi fled to Riyadh in 2015.

Saudi Arabia stood firmly behind the formation of the new Council. The Council was equally divided between South and North. It also appears that the names that were appointed took into account the interests of the UAE and Saudi Arabia in the impoverished country.
