Today, prominent Southern military commander, Major General Thabet Muthanna Jawas, was killed in a car bomb incident north of Aden.

Security source told "South24" that a car bomb exploded while crashing into Jawas's vehicle, resulting in his death along with a number of his accompanies", including his son.

According to the source, Major General Jawas was returning from a mourning event in the Green City in Lahj, north of Aden.

He is considered one of the most prominent military leaders in South Yemen. He is the commander of the Al-Anad Military Axis and the 131st Infantry Brigade.

His name emerged in the battles of Saada, North Yemen, against the Houthis between 2004-2009.

He led the military force that clashed with the former Houthi leader Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi that killed the latter.

He played a key role in the battles to liberate the strategic Al-Anad base and Lahj governorate from the Houthis in 2015.

It should be noted that on October 30, 2021, Jawas was subjected to an assassination attempt with an explosive car that exploded in front of Aden International Airport gate, killing 5 innocent civilians and wounding 25 others. Aden security authorities accused a senior Yemeni government official of planning the explosion at the time, and receiving support from the Houthis.
